William Aparicio | Codificado Microfilms

William Aparicio
Codificado Microfilms
2013
In this work, William searched the archives of the most important newspapers in Colombia since April 9, 1948. This day represents a memorable moment in the history of the country, with all its consequences decade after decade, until the end of the 20th century: a single film stores 50 years of history.
The infinite memory bars built up by the printed page day after day disappear in the process before the library’s vast archives. The macro title “Pausa intercrònica” (Spacetime pause), including the following “Codificado Microfilms”, reflects on the concept of the database as a symbolic figure of our time; in fact, today’s digital devices are indispensable for the construction of personal and collective memory.
